Energy symphosium EPCG NET 2023

EPCG NET Budva is one of the most prominent energy events in the region of Southeast Europe. It hosts between 200 and 250 participants, including most remarkable regional and European names in the area of power engineering: university professors, academics, representatives of energy companies and other entities – theorists and practitioners.

Elektroprivreda Crne Gore AD Nikšić is an organizer of EPCG NET Budva in cooperation with Association of energy sector specialists.

EPCG NET Budva is held every year at the end of May or beginning of June through dialogue, expert panels and exchange of know-how aimed at reaching most optimal solutions and answers important for further energy sector development. The focus is on new energy trends in the area of renewable energy sources (RES), energy transition, i.e. possibilities and conditions for the construction of new facilities for generation of the so-called green energy, by applying up-to-date technologies.

This year, EPCG NET Budva is held for the second time in Avala Hotel in Budva, in the period 2 – 4 June. The agenda of EPCG NET Budva 2023 includes four panels about current topics and presentation of Solari 5000+ Project.

EPCG NET will also be inaugurated this year by the president of the EPCG Board of Directors, Milutin Đukanović.

Old town of Budva

One of the oldest settlements in the Adriatic, according to historical sources known more than two and a half thousand years ago as the "city of Illyria", is an unavoidable place when visiting the Riviera. According to legend, Budva was founded by Kadmo, the son of the Phoenician king Agenor and queen Telefosa.

The old town is a unique architectural and urban entity, surrounded by medieval ramparts, with a fortress, towers and gates. Along the narrow streets, small markets and squares, there are cafes, boutiques, bars, restaurants, galleries... which during the summer months, thanks to performances, concerts and exhibitions, the Old Town truly becomes the City Theater. Also, this is the name of festival, which since 1987. enriches old coastal town and gives it a special color and charm.

Sacred objects are of particular value - the oldest church of Santa Maria in Punta, then St. Ivan, Saint Trinity and St. Sava the Sanctified. Next to the church of St. Ivan are the remains of an early Christian basilica, and at the Citadel the remains of the church of St. Mary. Between the churches is a scene for performances by the City Theater. In the Old Town you can see the Roman pillars, the walls of the oldest gate of Budva. Of the cultural institutions, the most significant are the Museum of the City of Budva with its archeological and ethnographic setting, the Modern Gallery and the memorial home "Stefan Mitrov Ljubisa".

Peninsula Sveti Stefan

One of the most exclusive resorts in the Mediterranean, was created by the adaptation of stone houses on the island, built over five centuries ago to protect the population from surrounding villages in the event of attacks by pirates and Turks. According to history, in 1442, the Pashtrovici fortified the island from loot of Turkish galleys and built twelve houses, one for each Pashtur tribe.

Saint Stefan was a fishing village for several centuries, until it was converted into a luxury hotel resort in the mid-1950s. The city-hotel opened on July 13th, 1960., and for decades was a gathering place for celebrities from around the world - including, among others, Sofia Loren and Carlo Ponti, Alberto Moravia, Andre Marlo, Richard Vidmark, Kirk Douglas, Klaus Kinski, Monika Vit, Sylvester Stallone, Yuri Gagarin, Boris Spaski, Bobby Fischer… crowned heads, writers, actors, scientists, politicians and rich sheikhs.

Ancient necropolis of Budva

During the digging of the foundations for the construction of the “Avala” Hotel (1936-1938), several graves from the Hellenistic and Roman periods were discovered in which valuable material was found - especially gold and silver jewelry, various vessels, glass, ceramics, weapons.

The necropolis has two parts, the older one belonging to the Hellenistic period from the 4th to the 1st century BC, and the newer belonging to the Roman period, 1. the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. A total of 450 graves have been discovered and it is estimated that the necropolis has been in use for more than a millennium.
You can see some of the objects found from the Budva necropolis in the Museum of the City of Budva.

Museum of Budva

The Old Town Museum, housed in a building dating from the early 19th century, has permanent exhibits of archeological and ethnographic collections, and on the ground floor of the museum is a lapidarium with valuable examples of stone plastic.

The archaeological collection consists of objects found during archaeological excavations in Budva (Hellenistic gold, various vases, jewelry, decorations, tools, cutlery, glassware, clay, silverware ...) dating from the 5th century BC to the Middle Ages, bringing together the cultures of the Illyrians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Slavs in this area. Gold earrings and a brooch featuring an eagle with a boy in his claws, which is related to the myth of Zeus and Ganymede,

are especially valuable. The ethnographic collection contains items from this area from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century. The archaeological collection has more than 1200 and the ethnological collection has 450 objects.

The Praskvica Monastery

The Praskvica Monastery, near St. Stefan, is one of the oldest and most important monasteries on the Littoral.
.

The founding year is 1413, as evidenced by the preserved charter of the son-in-law of the son-in-law of Balsa III, which speaks of the construction of the church of St. Nicholas (Sveti Nikola). The Church of St. Nicholas (Sveti Nikola) is the main church in the monastery complex, and is located on the foundations of the church built by Balsa III. The monastery's library and archive are very rich, especially the treasury, which holds many valuables.

Interestingly, the Monastery was named after a nearby spring whose water has the smell of peach, a local peach variety, once common in this area.

Old olive Ivanovići

In the village of Ivanovici, near Budva, there is an olive tree about 2000 years old, which is with the olive tree in Bar, considered as one of the oldest in the Adriatic.

Its circumference in the root neck is 12.5 meters, the trunk is 4 meters in diameter, and the tree is 10 meters high. The olive belongs to the local variety of jaundice, and still gives birth, and in the year of full production it can yield about 250 kilograms of fruit, or about 40 liters of oil.

Velja (big, old) olive belongs to the Ivanovic family, and in 1994. it was registered and protected as a nature monument.
